    If I'm honest I'm not a big reader, however both this title and pillars have enthralled me. The writer sends you back to a time where the world was simpler but still filled with danger, love, religion and death!! I've enjoyed reading this book and will miss catching up with the characters complex lives. Thank you Mr F for a brilliant tail.

    Another brilliant book to follow on from Pillars of the Earth. 200 hundred years later but the same personalities rule and fight over Kingsbridge but this time the Black Death deals it's deadly hand. Let's hope we seem the city in another 200 years.

    An excellent read , a great insight into life in the 12th century, written with great warmth and understanding . It left me wanting more, I could have read more and more. It is the first Ken Follet book for me and I cannot wait to read more of his work. The characters were were all so well portrayed and they leaped out of the pages and you felt that you wanted to meet them and get to know more about them. I cannot praise this novel highly enough and believe it is the best thing that I have read In quite a while. Eileen Noble

    How is it possible to immerse so deeply into a book of 1200 pages and feel dismay that their isn't any more. The book is like a pack of cards with several key figures being shuffled over several decades, with good and bad hands affecting their fate, and lives.     Was disappointed when I finished 'pillars of the earth' so bought this immediately. Didn't think it would live up its predecessor but it really did! A great story, well developed characters and an engaging insight into a bygone era. Just sad I've finished it now!
